Description of the Workplace We are seeking a highly motivated doctoral student for a research project focused on studying and combating age-related hematological disorders. The research group is based within the Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy and is part of the Lund Stem Cell Center . The division has a strong research focus on hematopoiesis in mice and humans, both during development and in adulthood, with the aim of translating research findings into clinical applications. The local research environment provides access to several core facilities, including the FACS Core, Translational Genomics Core, Viral Vector Core, ES/iPS Facility, CRISPR Core, and Proteomics Core. Together, these facilities offer a broad range of expertise and provide excellent opportunities for conducting ambitious research projects efficiently. Duties and Responsibilities In addition to pursuing doctoral studies according to the individual study plan and participating in relevant doctoral courses, the position includes the following duties: Processing and preparing bone marrow and blood samples from mice and humans for analysis Flow cytometry and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) ELISA and other protein quantification assays Cell culture of hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and organoids Laboratory mouse work, including breeding, euthanasia, injections, sampling, and genotyping Bioinformatic analysis of flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, and sequencing data Continuous compilation of results and presentation of data to collaborating researchers. The doctoral student is expected to actively participate in local and international seminars, meetings, and conferences relevant to the project and to present project outcomes at such events in accordance with the individual study plan. The project includes work with animal models. The doctoral student is also expected to take responsibility for: Formulating relevant research questions Planning and conducting appropriate experiments Seeking collaboration and discussion with colleagues best suited to support interpretation of research findings Identifying opportunities for career development and support Establishing, developing, and optimizing communication pathways with supervisors and colleagues that best support their work and training Qualifications Requirements for the Position Master of Science in Engineering in Biotechnology or equivalent qualification Certification in Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) Formal training in flow cytometry and FACS, as well as extensive experience in multiparameter flow cytometry Experience working with laboratory animals, particularly extraction and preparation of hematopoietic tissues (e.g., blood and bone marrow) from mice Extensive experience in cell culture, particularly modern techniques for culturing hematopoietic stem cells and mesenchymal stromal/stem cells Proficiency in flow cytometry data analysis using FlowJo Experience in bioinformatic analysis of mass spectrometry data Experience with the programming language R or a similar language Experience performing ELISA assays Documented excellent scientific English language skills Strong ability to work independently.
