Descrizione

At the University of Bremen, Faculty 3 (Computer Science), in the research group “Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality” of Prof. Gabriel Zachmann, within the EU project SENSORAMA (Horizon Europe), we are seeking to fill the following position at the earliest possible date: Research Associate (f/m/d) Salary group 13 TV-L , 100% (39.2 hours/week) , full-timeFixed-term contract until August 31, 2029 (in accordance with § 2 WissZeitVG). Part-time work is generally possible. Details can be arranged with Faculty 3 if necessary. The University of Bremen as an Employer The University of Bremen, with around 20,000 students and 3,500 employees , is a mid-sized university. It ranks among Germany’s strongest universities in terms of third-party funding and research. About the Research Group The “Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality” group conducts research on innovative solutions in virtual and augmented reality (XR) , with a particular focus on medical simulations, multimodal interaction, and real-time haptics . As part of the international EU project SENSORAMA (Horizon Europe) , we will develop the foundations for synchronized and adaptive multimodal XR training solutions to accelerate adoption in medical, educational, and industrial applications . The project involves 15 European partners and aims to create a novel synchronized multimodal data model serving as a central reference for visual, force, tactile, thermal, and auditory stimuli . Additional priorities include developing algorithms for ultra-fast force feedback and providing open SDKs and APIs for developers. Your Responsibilities Requirements Analysis : Assist in gathering requirements and translating user and use-case needs into measurable KPIs (e.g., latency limits, degrees of freedom for haptic devices) and technical objectives. Haptic SDK Development : Develop a modular SDK for force and tactile feedback; optimize for real-time performance ; distribute computations between GPU and device-proximal processors ; ensure precise synchronization with visual and auditory stimuli . Real-Time Collision and Force Calculation : Implement and evaluate advanced methods for collision detection and high-frequency haptic rendering for stable and realistic interactions. Real-Time Multimodal Synchronization : Design and implement algorithms for temporal alignment of different modalities (visual, haptic, auditory) in real time, compatible with a unified data model. XR Simulator Contributions : Participate in the development and integration of components for existing XR simulators in dentistry and hip surgery . Integration and Benchmarking : Engage in iterative integration cycles (module tests → data model and synchronization integration → full XR integration) and validate against technical KPIs (latency, fidelity, robustness). Open Developer SDKs/APIs : Contribute to maintainable, reusable software (clean APIs, documentation, examples) as part of the project’s open SDK/API strategy , with a focus on standardization. Coordination Support : Coordinate with other project partners and assist in reporting, in accordance with the University of Bremen’s responsibilities. Your Qualifications Required : A successfully completed university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Computer Science, Robotics, XR/VR, or a related field . Excellent programming skills , preferably in C/C++ , as well as experience with real-time systems and/or XR engines . Background knowledge in at least one of the following areas: haptics/force feedback, collision detection, geometric computing, physics simulation, low-latency synchronization . Desirable : Experience in research software development . Interest in collaborative research and software development . What We Offer A dynamic, international, and supportive research environment with a focus on medical, educational, and industrial XR applications . Close collaboration with 15 European partners from robotics, medical technology, and other fields. Integration into a mot Annuncio in inglese. Fonte: Euraxess (Commissione europea).
