CEMFI is inviting applications for one or two Research Assistant positions to join the Shared Prosperity Lab, led by Professor Monica Martinez-Bravo. The positions will be for one or two years, will be based at CEMFI in Madrid, and are funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant whose PI is Professor Monica Martinez-Bravo. The Shared Prosperity Lab is a new research and policy initiative aimed at developing a frontier research agenda on how economic policy can deliver broadly shared prosperity and strengthen trust in political institutions. The Lab will produce original research, engage with the latest advances in economics, and translate new evidence into concrete policy proposals. It will work closely with leading researchers and policymakers to identify important unanswered questions and build a bridge between cutting-edge economic research and policy design. CEMFI is one of the leading graduate schools in Europe. We offer highly selective Master and PhD programs in Economics and Finance. All our research and teaching activities are conducted in English. Our faculty and researchers conduct research subject to the highest international standards. The position Research Assistants will work closely with Professor Martinez-Bravo and other researchers involved in the Shared Prosperity Lab. The position offers close interaction with the PI and other leading researchers involved in the Lab. Research Assistants will contribute to different stages of research projects, including literature reviews, data collection and cleaning, statistical analysis, preparation of figures and tables, and support in the preparation of research and policy outputs. They will also support broader Lab activities, including the preparation of presentations and background materials and the organization of meetings, workshops, and other research activities. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical and quantitative skills, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills are especially important, including the ability to communicate economic ideas clearly and work effectively with researchers, policymakers, and other collaborators. Candidate profile Candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics or a closely related field, with strong training in quantitative methods. Proficiency in Stata, R, Python, or similar statistical software is highly desirable. Proficiency in English and fluency in Spanish are required. Able to legally work in the European Union is required Previous research experience is highly valued. Previous experience or demonstrated interest in public policy, particularly experience working with governments or public administrations, is a plus. The positions are particularly well suited to candidates considering future graduate studies in Economics, Public Policy, or related fields and who would like to gain experience working on frontier applied economic research with direct relevance for public policy.
