Within the department, the Photovoltaic Materials and Devices group develops innovative materials, devices and manufacturing technologies that enable the next generation of high-efficiency solar cells. Job description Delft University of Technology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join the ALD4TANDEM project, an ambitious research programme developing advanced atomic layer deposition (ALD) technologies for next-generation perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. The position is embedded in the Photovoltaic Materials and Devices (PVMD) group, in close cooperation with TU Delft colleagues and industrial partners. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, providing a unique opportunity to combine fundamental research with industrial technology development. We offer an inspiring research setting at one of Europe’s leading technical universities, with access to unique deposition and test facilities and strong international collaboration networks. This position provides the opportunity to contribute directly to the energy transition and to the development of sustainable, scalable heating solutions for the built environment. The research in the Department of Electrical Sustainable Energy is inspired by the technical, scientific, and societal challenges originating from the transition towards a more sustainable society and focuses on four areas: DC Systems, Energy Conversion and Storage (DCE&S) Photovoltaic Materials and Devices (PVMD) Intelligent Electrical Power Grids (IEPG) High Voltage Technologies (HVT) Within the department, the Photovoltaic Materials and Devices group develops innovative materials, devices and manufacturing technologies that enable the next generation of high-efficiency solar cells and photovoltaic Systems. You will fabricate and characterize perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells using state-of-the-art facilities at the TU Delft PV Technology Center, including large-area cleanroom processing, advanced thin-film deposition equipment and comprehensive photovoltaic characterization laboratories. You will collaborate closely with researchers working on silicon heterojunction solar cells, perovskite photovoltaics, tandem integration and device modelling. The successful applicant will have: A PhD in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or a closely related discipline. Strong background in modeling and simulation of thermal/energy systems, preferably including PV/T or hybrid solar systems. Hands-on experience with thin-film deposition techniques, preferably including ALD, CVD, PVD or thermal evaporation. Experience with photovoltaic devices, semiconductor materials or optoelectronic devices. Experience with materials characterization techniques such as XRD, XPS, SEM, AFM, ellipsometry, Hall measurements or related methods. Experience with solar-cell characterization (J-V, EQE, stability testing) is considered an advantage. Excellent communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English. Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team and collaborate closely with industrial partners. This position may require a knowledge security screening in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
