Research Staff in Diamond-Based Quantum Materials, Experimental Systems and Advanced Device Characterization General requirements PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a closely related discipline. Minimum of 6 years of research experience after PhD, in advanced materials, nanotechnology, electronic devices, photonics or quantum technologies. At least two international postdoctoral research positions or appointments at universities, public research organisations or internationally recognised research centres. Excellent command of written and spoken English. Job description We are looking for a candidate to carry out the following functions: Develop, fabricate, integrate and characterize advanced materials and devices for diamond-based quantum technologies. Design, assemble, automate and commission experimental setups for electrical, optical, spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization. Develop software tools for data acquisition, instrument control, laboratory automation and experimental data analysis. Perform structural, morphological, electrical, optical and spectroscopic characterization of materials and devices using advanced techniques. Support the development and validation of reproducible experimental protocols within the DIREQT pilot line. Contribute to technology integration, device/system validation and demonstration activities in collaboration with international consortium partners. Assist in the preparation of technical reports, scientific publications, project milestones, deliverables and experimental documentation. Support other research activities, competitive projects and technology transfer contracts carried out by the Quantum NanoDevices Group and IMDEA Nanociencia. Requirements: Proven experience in materials science and engineering, preferably involving diamond or carbon-based materials. Experience in synthesis, growth, modification, functionalisation or engineering of advanced materials, including the control of defects, dopants or functional properties. Experience in the synthesis, processing and functionalisation of nanodiamonds or related carbon-based nanomaterials will be considered an asset. Experience in the development, fabrication and characterization of electronic, photonic or sensing devices, including field-effect devices, metal-semiconductor structures or equivalent functional architectures. Experience with structural, electrical, optical, spectroscopic and/or electrochemical characterization techniques. Experience in the design, assembly, integration and automation of experimental setups and scientific instrumentation. Experience in scientific programming and software development for data acquisition, instrument control, laboratory automation and experimental data analysis, preferably using Python or equivalent programming languages. Knowledge and practical experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning or advanced data analysis applied to experimental research will be valuable. Experience working in micro- and nanofabrication laboratories and/or cleanroom facilities will be valuable. Communication skills in Spanish will be valuable. Ability to work in a team, flexibility and adaptability to handle multiple tasks. Availability to travel. Experience in industrial collaboration, technology transfer or applied research projects will be valuable. Experience with diamond-specific characterization setups, including Raman spectroscopy, electrical measurements, electrochemical methods, photoluminescence or related techniques, will be valuable. Knowledge of additional languages besides English will be considered an asset. Working conditions: Full-time employment contract (37.5 h per week). Contract duration: 42 months, subject to project funding and applicable employment regulations.
