Department of Biomedical Sciences Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Copenhagen The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI), Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, seeks to appoint a tenure‑track assistant professor or an associate professor to commence 1 March 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter. BMI focuses on basic and translational biomedicine and the integration of these topics. The staff includes graduates in medicine, life and natural sciences, with interests spanning physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pharmacology, and clinical medicine. The staff delivers high-quality, research-based, and clinically relevant pre- and postgraduate teaching on courses within biomedicine, physiology and pharmacology and supervises postgraduate students. A team of laboratory technicians and administrative staff supports the Department. BMI prioritizes translational cardiometabolic research as a core strategic focus. Diseases like diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis, and heart failure create immense global health challenges, necessitating novel mechanistic insights and cutting-edge pharmacological solutions. BMI’s expertise in physiology, pharmacology, and cell- and animal-based models equips the Department to spearhead progress in these critical areas. Modern cardiometabolic research spans fundamental studies of disease mechanisms as well as prevention and treatment. It integrates more effective lifestyle interventions with emerging pharmacological approaches and places mechanistic insights into drug–target interactions at the centre of innovation. Appointing a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor who can build a research group in this area in the department will contribute to BMI’s mission to connect molecular discovery with clinically relevant therapeutic innovation and deliver research that improves human cardiometabolic health.
