Descrizione
The Department of Health Sciences and Technology ( www.hest.ethz.ch ) at ETH Zurich invites applications for the above-mentioned position. The focus of this new professorship will be on the development of new diagnostic and prognostic methods (biosensors, biomarker analytics, artificial intelligence), which are expected to be validated via their integration in clinical workflows. The new professor is expected to contribute to digital/personalized health by improving prevention and therapies in prehabilitation and rehabilitation: fields of application include, but are not limited to oncology, geriatrics, neurology, paraplegiology or surgery. The research aims to develop biological, chemical, molecular, optical, electrical or other sensing technologies for an early diagnosis of possible pre- and postoperative complications as well as for health monitoring purposes. The professorship shall contribute to topics such as telehealth systems for remote clinical services, wireless medical devices as decision support systems and advanced data analytics (digital twins and artificial intelligence). Ideal candidates have a background in engineering with a specialization in biomechatronics, biochemistry, biomaterials, biomolecular analytics, or biostatistics, allowing them to build bridges from basic research to clinical application involving different scales from the molecular to the human level. Expertise in the field of biomedical engineering, with an emphasis on measurement sciences like biosensing technologies, biochemical analysis, molecular diagnosis, advanced materials applied to biosensing, or advanced data science techniques, is considered an asset. The new professorship will be established at ETH Zurich with premises mainly at EMPA, St. Gallen, and in conjunction with the clinical research at the Kantonsspital St. Gallen to develop patient-specific diagnostic tools and build rapid clinical translation of the research results. The successful candidate will also oversee the translation of materials, technologies, protocols, and AI algorithms to the clinics and industrial partners. Therefore, experience in or a strong link to clinical medicine is desired for the position. The new professor is expected to contribute to teaching at the undergraduate level (in German or English) and at the graduate level (in English). Engagement in practical teaching in the form of focus projects or teaching labs is also anticipated. ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values diversity , and is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples . Please apply online: www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch  ; Applications should include a covering letter; a curriculum vitae; a list of publications; three statements on a) research, b) teaching, c) leadership; descriptions of the three most important achievements; and a certificate of the highest degree. Please note that the covering letter should be formally addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 15 September 2026 . Annuncio in inglese.
