The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Food Science is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate, temporary replacement. Extent of employment: 16 hours per week Duration of employment: 26th of September 2026, limited to 28th of February 2027 Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: B1 lit. b Gross monthly salary: (depending on previous eligible experience) at least: € 2.005,70 (payable 14 times per year) Responsibilities Research in the field of food quality, with a focus on microbial food safety and hygiene. Experience in the scientific management of projects (grant-funded research) Presentation of research findings at academic and nonacademic events in German and English University teaching in the fields of food quality assurance, food microbiology and hygiene in German and English (tutorials, seminars, lectures) and supervision or co-supervision of final theses within the limits of legal possibilities Independent planning and implementation of research projects Knowledge transfer and promotion of early-career researchers in line with the BOKU University's social responsibility Undertaking administrative tasks within the framework of university self-governance Contribution to the lnstitute's current research areas and willingness to cooperate with internal and external partners to strengthen BOKU's field of expertise 'Agricultural Production and Food' and the current cross-cutting research theme 'Nutrition and Health Security' Required skills and qualifications Doctorate degree / PhD in the field of food hygiene and quality Excellent proficiency in German and English (written and spoken) Research experience in the field of food microbiology and food safety, with a focus on food safety and quality Research experience with propionic acid bacteria in the dairy industry Knowledge of microbiological and molecular biology laboratory practices (anaerobic systems, cell culture, qPCR, MALDI-TOF MS) Teamwork and communication skills Initiative and a responsible work ethic Experience as a university lecturer (evidence of teaching skills) Desirable skills and qualifications Experience in conducting research projects Experience in dealing with foodborne pathogens Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and independence BOKU University seeks to increase the number of its female faculty and staff members.
