Descrizione

The LAAS-CNRS (Laboratory for Analysis and Architecture of Systems) is a world-renowned research unit of the CNRS. Research conducted at LAAS is based on four main disciplinary fields: computer science, robotics, automatic control, and micro- and nanosystems. LAAS is located in Toulouse, a city in southern France known for its rich industrial ecosystem—from major aerospace companies to high-tech startups—its university founded in 1229, and its numerous research centers. TRUST Team at LAAS-CNRS is a leading research team in the fields of dependability and cybersecurity. It comprises around thirty members, including CNRS researchers, faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD students. The team's research covers a broad spectrum of computing systems, including critical embedded systems, IoT devices, cloud services, telecommunications, web technologies, social networks, and energy distribution systems. Their work focuses on methods for designing and analyzing systems in the presence of threats such as physical faults, software development errors, and cyberattacks. This research will be carried out within the framework of the REV project of the PEPR Cybersecurity program. This PhD thesis will aim to analyze emerging threats to industrial security in the context of the gradual deployment of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Particular attention will be paid to the interconnection of heterogeneous, often proprietary technologies used in fieldbus systems and industrial control networks. The research will focus on analyzing the risks introduced by the convergence of legacy industrial systems and modern infrastructures, including risks related to interference, unintended interactions between protocols, multi-protocol gateways, and embedded security mechanisms. Special emphasis will be placed on industrial wireless protocols such as ISA100.11a and WirelessHART, as well as their coexistence with more widely deployed technologies such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The thesis will seek to model and evaluate realistic attack scenarios arising from the evolution of industrial environments and to propose detection and prevention strategies, along with secure architectures tailored to these new risks.
