Our physical location at the Department of Chemistry offers a vibrant campus life with diverse areas of expertise under one roof. Here, you will have daily access to state-of-the-art facilities and world-class infrastructure, such as advanced mass spectrometry and the National Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy (nCHREM). We strongly believe that groundbreaking science thrives in a supportive atmosphere, and we actively strive for a positive, inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect, knowledge sharing, and work-life balance. Being a doctoral student As a doctoral student, you are both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University. As a doctoral student, you will be trained in a scientific approach. In short, you will be trained to think critically and analytically, to solve problems independently using the right methods, and to develop an awareness of research ethics. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work on projects, to develop your leadership and pedagogical skills. Throughout your studies, you will be guided by supervisors. This doctoral position offers advanced training in organic synthesis, with a focus on developing new synthetic methodologies, through the use of, but not limited to, photoredox catalysis. Work duties You will primarily devote yourself to your doctoral programme, which includes participation in research projects as well as third cycle courses, seminars and conferences. The work duties primarily involve organic synthesis and molecular design, along with purification and characterization using chromatography and spectroscopic techniques such as LCMS and NMR. You will be responsible for documenting experimental work, analyzing data, and assisting in the preparation of scientific manuscripts. Additionally, the role includes planning experiments and presenting research findings at group meetings and seminars. The duties may also include participation in teaching and other departmental work (however, a maximum of 20% of working hours). Qualifications To be eligible for admission and employment as a doctoral student, you must fulfil the requirements below. Admission requirements A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if the applicant: has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad. A person meets the specific admission requirements for third cycle studies in organic chemistry if the applicant has: at least 15 higher education credits in the subject area, including at least 7.5 credits at the advanced level, and an independent project (thesis) of at least 30 credits at the advanced level in the subject area, or a Master of Science in Engineering (civilingenjörsexamen) in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, or Engineering Nanoscience. Finally, the student must be assessed as having the ability needed to complete the education.
