We seek an outstanding and internationally visible scientist with a strong track record in experimental solid-state quantum physics and/or quantum engineering. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent and innovative research program that complements and extends the institute’s existing strengths in solid-state quantum phenomena. The professorship will play a central role in the Excellence Cluster “QuantumFrontiers II”, whose mission is to redefine the limits of measurement and control at the quantum level. Active engagement in shaping the scientific agenda of the cluster and close collaboration with regional and international partners - particularly the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and Technische Universität Braunschweig - are expected. Ideal candidates will demonstrate an excellent research record in areas such as beyond optics, such as quantum information processing (computation and communication), quantum metrology, quantum sensing, novel quantum materials, or related fields of solid-state quantum technologies. The profile is intentionally broad in order to attract innovative approaches from adjacent and emerging areas. A strong record in acquiring competitive research funding (e.g., ERC, DFG, BMBF or comparable international funding schemes) is a strong plus, as well as experience in leading research teams. Participation in or initiation of coordinated research programs (e.g., Collaborative Research Centers or DFG graduate school programs) is welcome. The professorship will contribute to teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Physics, Nanotechnology, and Quantum Engineering. We expect a strong commitment to research-oriented teaching and active participation in the strategic development of the institute, the faculty and the university in general. Your Profile Required Qualifications: A distinguished research record beyond optics in experimental solid-state quantum physics and/or quantum engineering, demonstrated by high-impact international publications and/or research awards. A clear alignment with the scientific objectives of the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers. Teaching experience in English or German and the willingness to acquire proficiency in German within a reasonable period if not present yet. Preferred Qualifications: A successful track record of attracting third-party funding, especially within competitive national or international research programs. Experience in leading research teams and mentoring early-career researchers. Active participation in collaborative or coordinated research programs, such as Clusters of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centers (SFB), or graduate schools (RTGs). Willingness to initiate interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly within the network QuantumFrontiers, the Leibniz University Hannover, TU Braunschweig, and the PTB.
