Descrizione
We are looking for a postdoc to help design and manage ecological field experiment in Indonesian oil palm plantations. You should have experience in tropical and experimental ecology and be willing to spend long periods of time in Indonesia. Job description Biodiversity-ecosystem function (BEF) theory predicts that enhancing biological diversity in a system will increase levels of functioning. While BEF theory has been tested extensively in boreal and temperate realms, it remains relatively understudied in the tropics, although this is where the bulk of biodiversity resides. As part of a Research Council of Finland Fellowship, you will help design and initiate a largescale experiment to investigate BEF relationships in Indonesian oil palm plantations. The experiment focuses on manipulating the diversity of understory vegetation. You will focus on 1) determining the understory species in the experimental treatments, 2) implementing the treatments in the field, and 3) measuring the effects of experimental treatments on plantfocused metrics (e.g., resistance to invasion). You will work collaboratively with researchers in Finland, UK, Belgium, and Indonesia, including the palm oil industry. Our expectations of the applicant You are expected to already have experience in large-scale ecological field experiments, ideally in the tropics, and managing and working with international teams. Expertise in plant ecology is a strength. This is likely not your first postdoc, although exceptionally qualified recent PhDs should apply. Suitable candidates are willing to spend extensive time in Riau, Sumatra (Indonesia). You should be comfortable using English as a working language. When not in Indonesia, you will be based in person at Luke’s Viikki campus (Helsinki). We offer you The well-being of our people and a positive approach towards innovation and development are particularly important to us. Our mobile work model allows you to work in Finland in the location most appropriate for your work. In addition, we provide flexible hours, and as your employment with us continues, long vacations.
