Descrizione
The development of critical thinking (CT) in response to misinformation, particularly scientific misinformation, has become a central priority in recent educational policies. Educational resources, teaching materials, and training programmes for professionals in the education and cultural sectors have expanded considerably. However, research on the effectiveness of interventions designed to foster CT, as well as their rigorous evaluation, remains limited. This research project IMPACT aims to develop and validate assessment tools for CT (Pasquinelli et al., 2020, 2023). Specifically, the project will: (1) validate a French version of an existing CT assessment instrument (using data already collected) and a second instrument measuring susceptibility to misinformation (Maertens et al., 2023) ; and (2) contribute to the design of an innovative intervention to strengthen CT and increase citizens' resilience to influence and misinformation. The effectiveness of this intervention will be established through a rigorous impact evaluation prior to any large-scale implementation. The project aligns with the priority themes of the ASTRID programme, jointly funded by the French Defence Innovation Agency (AID) and the French National Research Agency (ANR), including cognitive immunity and psychological inoculation, individual and collective resilience, and measurement scales and evaluation. Responsibilities - Conduct a literature review on the relationship between CT and metacognition components - Design an innovative experimental protocol based on the Control of Variables Strategy (Chen & Klahr, 1999; Schwichow et al., 2016, 2020) to investigate the evaluation of information reliability. - Contribute to the development and validation of the project's psychometric instruments, data collection, and data analysis. - Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national and international conferences, and outreach activities for the general public. Activities - Co-design CT assessment measures, including the selection of instruments to assess the variables of interest, programming experimental protocols using computer-based data collection software, preparing and submitting ethics applications, drafting informed consent documents, and pre-registering studies. - Submit research protocols to the Research Ethics Committee (CER) of University of Caen Normandie. - Coordinate data collection, including: --> developing study materials in collaboration with the research team and field partners (e.g., trainers and teachers); --> coordinating the activities of personnel involved in data collection (educational staff and military supervisors); --> monitoring the implementation and progress of the project; --> actively participating in data collection. - Organise and contribute to data processing and analysis, including statistical analyses such as Item Response Theory (IRT) modelling and exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. - Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through: --> the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; --> presentations at national and international scientific conferences. - Contribute to project reporting, including the preparation of progress reports, scientific deliverables, interim reports, final reports, and summaries of project outcomes.
