We are announcing a position as a Bioinformatics PhD candidate (m/f/d) for the Leibniz ScienceCampus „Antimicrobial Resistance Plasticity (AMR- PLAS)“ The position is offered for 3 years (65% TVöD) The Research Center Borstel (RCB) is an internationally operating Lung Center within the Leibniz Association, financed by the Federal Government and the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our central task is basic and translational research in the field of respiratory diseases. We operate extensive laboratory and research infrastructures. Academically, we are closely linked with neighboring universities (Lübeck, Kiel) and clinically with the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. Our goal is to improve existing methods for the detection, prevention and treatment of lung diseases and to develop new, innovative therapeutic approaches. JOB DESCRIPTION The Leibniz ScienceCampus AMR-PLAS investigates how microorganisms evolve in response to antibiotics, with the goal of improving our understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The rapid global spread of AMR is leading to an increase in difficult-to-treat infections and poses a major challenge for controlling diseases such as tuberculosis. Within AMR-PLAS, we study genomic and non-genomic mechanisms of bacterial plasticity in clinically relevant pathogens, including ESKAPE pathogens, mycobacteria, and other medically important species. As a PhD candidate, you will join the Leibniz ScienceCampus AMR-PLAS, where seven PhD candidates are based at the Research Center Borstel and the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. You will work closely with a junior scientist, ensuring structured training, methodological support, and continuous scientific exchange. The Leibniz ScienceCampus is a regional network funded by the Leibniz Association that connects universities and non-university institutes around a shared research topic. It promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, structured PhD training, early-career networking, and the transfer of research into practice. Participating groups offer an internationally competitive research environment with state-of-the-art facilities, using experimental, molecular, genomic, and theoretical approaches.
