Applications are now open for the award of one Research Fellowship for a PhD student within the scope of the project USTin4 – APPLICATION OF ULTRASOUND FIELD IN MANUFACTURING PROCESSES , with financial support from P2030 , under the following conditions: Scientific Area: Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Energy Work Plan Title: Sustainability and Product Efficiency Studies 1. Duration and Working Regime: The grant will have a duration of 3 months , with an expected starting date of July 2026 , and may be renewed up to the maximum limit permitted under the applicable regulations. The granting of the scholarship does not create or constitute a legal employment relationship. The activities will be carried out under an exclusive dedication regime , and the grant holder will be awarded the status of Research Grant Holder , in accordance with the current version of the FCT Research Grant Regulations. 2. Work Plan: The selected candidate will carry out the following activities: Assessment of environmental sustainability, cost analysis, and ecodesign solutions. Quantification of potential improvements in environmental performance and costs resulting from the integration of ultrasound systems into LC, WAAM, MIG/MAG, and brazing processes. Development of systems based on ecodesign strategies aimed at improving the environmental performance of products and systems developed within the project. The guidelines to be developed will include best practices in material selection, namely the replacement or minimisation of critical raw materials, the development of solutions promoting extended product lifetime, and the prevention and mitigation of the main environmental impacts associated with the processes. Definition of the methodological approach to be adopted in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, in accordance with ISO 14040/44 standards, as well as in cost analyses, namely cost-effectiveness analysis and cost-benefit analysis. 3. Scientific Supervision: Dr. Flávia Barbosa. The work will be carried out at INEGI facilities in Porto, Portugal. 4. Admission Requirements: Candidates must be enrolled in a PhD programme. 5. Academic Qualifications and Candidate Profile: Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, specialising in Environmental Technology and Management Excellent knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment and product sustainability studies. Autonomy and initiative. Goal-oriented mindset and critical thinking skills. Teamwork and communication skills. Proficiency in written and spoken English. 6. In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and to ensure the principle of equal treatment between candidates holding foreign and national qualifications, recognition of such degrees is mandatory. The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas may be requested from any Portuguese public higher education institution or from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES, in the case of automatic recognition). Monthly Maintenance Allowance: The grant amount is €1,359.64 per month , in accordance with the FCT grant table currently in force for grants awarded in Portugal, available at FCT Grant Amounts Table 2026 . Payment will be made by bank transfer at the end of each month. 8. Additional Benefits: The grant holder will also be covered by: Personal accident insurance; Voluntary Social Security contributions, where applicable. 9. Applicable Legislation and Regulations: Research Fellow Statute (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica), approved by Law No. 40/2004 of 18 August, as amended; Research Grant Regulation of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P.
