The Faculty of Education is one of the Nordic region’s leading research environments in the fields of teaching, learning, leadership, and health. Through our research, we contribute to a more equitable and sustainable society. By recruiting four new assistant professors, one of whom specialises in education, we are strengthening our work on the national initiative Excellence in school , which the University of Gothenburg and Karlstad University have been commissioned to develop. The initiative integrates three research areas—subject-matter education, knowledge assessment and conditions for learning, and school leadership—with the aim of promoting the development of knowledge among all pupils. As an assistant professor, you will be part of the new Centre for Teaching and Learning in Schools , to which a total of eight new assistant professors are being recruited, four of whom will be employed at University of Gothenburg. This position in education will be based at the Department of Education, Communication and Learning. Subject area Education Subject area description Education is a subject focusing on education, teaching, upbringing, socialisation, formation and learning. The subject in Education has a special interest in the relationship between the individual and the society, and the conditions under which institutional conditions act and have acted over time. Educational processes and outcomes are studied within contexts of structure and agency, and their interrelations, within as well as outside formal education. Duties At the Department of Education, Communication and Learning we offer prominent education programs and outstanding research in our areas of knowledge - Education, Communication and Learning. Various societal issues that follow from globalization, sustainability and digitalisation are our focus. Internationally, our research contributes to issues concerning the conditions of vulnerable children and young people, the preschool's mission and quality, migration and other societal changes, violence and racism in school and during leisure-time and the consequences of digitalisation for education and working life. A position as assistant professor is intended to enable the successful candidate to develop their teaching and research expertise for further academic career progression. The position therefore comprises 50% research and 50% teaching. The research is carried out in one of the department’s research environments and in collaboration with senior researchers at the Centre for Teaching and Learning in Schools and will form part of the research programme to be carried out within the strategic research area Excellence in School . The majority of the teaching responsibilities are within the Preschool Teacher Education Programme, in the field of science, technology, mathematics, and sustainable development. Teaching and supervision in other programmes, courses, or continuing professional development may also be required. The role also includes course leadership, course development, and collaboration. Teaching at the department is conducted primarily on campus and in Swedish, although some teaching in English also takes place. Good oral and written proficiency in English and in Swedish or another Scandinavian language is therefore required. Staff are also expected to be present on campus to a significant extent, thereby contributing to a stimulating academic environment.
