Scientific Research Grant Regulations, it is hereby made public that, by decision of the IPMA, I.P. Board of Directors on 11/06/2026, was authorized the opening of the applications contest, with the reference IPMA-2026-018-BI , for the awarding of a Research Grant in the area of Physical Sciences or related fields, within the scope of the project, MICROCLI-MAC (1/MAC/2/2.4/0044), “Tecnología y gestión inteligente de microclimas para la adaptación a un clima cambiante en la Macro Región Macaronésica y Terceros Países Africanos” , which is part of the INTERREG VI D MADEIRA-AZORES-CANARIANS MAC 2021-2027 Territorial Cooperation Programme, funded through the ERDF. 1 — Requirements for candidate admission The scholarship is intended for holders of a Bachelor's degree in the scientific areas of Physical Sciences or related fields, whose curriculum has a workload equal to that of a Physics degree, for the execution of research support activities within the scope of the MICROCLI-MAC project. 2 — Candidate Hiring Requirements The candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in the scientific field of Physical Sciences or related fields, with a curriculum equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in physics. The selected candidate must be enrolled, at the time of hiring, in a master's program, integrated master’s program, or a non-degree-granting course integrated into an educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units in the aforementioned scientific areas. 3 — Planned Work Program The fellow's work program will include the following activities: Collect surface meteorological data from the Madeira and Azores archipelagos relevant to the MICROCLI-MAC project; Collect and updating upper air meteorological data from Madeira (Funchal) and the Azores (Terceira) relevant to the MICROCLI-MAC project; Evaluate the frequency, using specific tools, of the duration of easterly winds (calima) at Madeira, using observations from the network data from automatic meteorological stations and radiosonde data; Study and technical exploration of a LIDAR system and its use in dust observation; Participate in the installation of 2 automatic meteorological stations at Pico Island/Azores, 1 LIDAR system for dust observation at Pico Island, and 1 at Madeira Island; Evaluate data collected with LIDAR and organize it on a specific archive; Validate the results from dust dispersion and concentration models / Copernicus; Prepare technical-scientific report on the developed activities. 4 — Duration and renewal conditions The grant, scheduled to begin in August 2026, will have a duration of 12 months, non-renewable, on an exclusive dedication basis. The work to be developed within the scope of this grant is temporary in its nature and will not continue beyond the completion of the project. 5 — Location where the activity will take place The grant is considered within the scope of the activities of the Regional Delegation of IPMA I.P., at Madeira, located at Rua do Lazareto, nº 37 and 39, 9060-019 Funchal, and/or, at the IPMA, I.P. facilities in Lisbon, at the IPMA headquarters, located at Rua C ao Aeroporto, 1749-077 Lisbon, under the scientific guidance of Victor Prior, Director of the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics of IPMA, I.P. The location where the activities will take place may be changed, according to the needs of the established Working Program. 6 — Monthly Maintenance Allowance Amount The scholarship amount corresponds to €1.090,98 , according to the value table approved by FCT, I.P. The scholarship payment will be made monthly via bank transfer by IPMA, I.P. to an account indicated by the scholarship holder.
