ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE AWARD OF A RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP Title: Research Grant for a Bachelor degree holder – QUANTUM_IBER_IA (2 vacancys) Reference: QUANTUM_IBER_IA – BI – 01/2026 (2) A call for applications is now open for the attribution of 2 grant(s) of (type) within the scope of the I&D project ”QUANTUM_IBER_IA – Interreg – POCTEP: strategic drive for quantum technology and artificial intelligence capabilities in the cross-border Iberian space” of Center for Microelectromecanical Systems, Ref. 590_QUANTUM_IBER_IA_6_E, financed by Norte Reginal Development and Coordination Commission | CCDR – N through Interreg VA Spain-Portugal (POCTEP) Programme 2021 – 2027 | European Territorial Cooperation – INTERREG, under the following conditions: Scientific Area: Biomedical Engineering. Recipient category: The scholarship is intended for graduates in the area of Biomedical Engineering. Identify the type(s) of scholarship to be awarded: a) Degree courses: Research grants (BI) are intended for I&D activities by students enrolled in an integrated master's degree, a master's degree or a PhD. b) Non-conferring degrees courses: They may also be intended for I&D activities by graduates or masters enrolled in non-academic degree courses. Requirement for granting the fellowship:  The applicants may apply without prior registration in the course for which the fellowship is open. The requirement to enroll in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be verified on the date of contracting the fellowship;  Only fellowships whose selected applicants present a valid proof of enrollment in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be contracted, according to the type of the fellowship, issued by a Higher Education Institution, indicating, respectively, the academic year or its duration (star and term). Applicants’ eligibility: Candidates who meet the conditions set out in Article 9 of the Research Grant Regulations, No. 950/2019, of 16-12-2019, of FCT I.P. are eligible. Nationals or citizens of other European Union member states, third-country nationals, stateless persons, and citizens with political refugee status are eligible to apply for this competition. Candidate eligibility requirements: Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering by the application date. Proof of academic qualifications completed by the application deadline—including those resulting from academic degree recognition processes—is required for the hiring process. Proof of enrollment in a Master's program in Biomedical Engineering is also required for the hiring process.Preferred Qualifications: Candidates must be students in the Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering – Specialization in Medical Electronics. Proficiency in electronics applied to the medical field. Fluency in Portuguese and English. Strong teamwork skills. Motivation. Workplan and objectives to be achieved: The work plan consists of the following phases/tasks: a) Study of the quantum imaging phenomenon using entangled photons. b) Assembly of a quantum optics system comprising a BBO (beta-barium borate) crystal, a Michelson interferometer, dichroic mirrors, lenses, interference filters, and a diode laser as the light source. c) Construction of a quantum imaging system based on a Michelson interferometer for medical imaging using IR light. d) Study and implementation of a Brillouin spectroscopy system e) Implement a functional three-dimensional mapping system based on Brillouin spectroscopy. f) Apply and validate the developed system for the three-dimensional mapping of ex vivo biological tissues. Note: The work plan should aim at consolidating the scientific training of the research fellow in the framework of the course conferring a degree or academic diploma.
