GRANT DESCRIPTION Type of grant: Research Grant (BI) General scientific area: COMPUTER SCIENCE Scientific subarea: Informatics Grant duration: 6 months, starting on 2026-10-01 with the possibility of being renewed for a maximum term of one year, in cases where the grant has been awarded to students who are enrolled in non-award courses, or up to two years, in the cases of students enrolled in a master's degree. Scientific advisor: Marco Amaro Oliveira Workplace: INESC TEC, Porto, Portugal Maintenance stipend: 1090.98, according to the table of monthly maintenance stipend for FCT grants ( https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_atu… ), paid via bank transfer. Grant holders may be awarded potential supplements, according to a quarterly evaluation process (Articles 19, 21 and 22 of the Regulations for Grants of INESC TEC and Annex II), up to a maximum limit of 50 of the monthly maintenance stipend. OBJECTIVES: - Review of techniques and works related to federated data services and infrastructures for controlled, secure, and private data sharing ; - Analysis of technologies for implementing a data space in an industrial context within ocean technologies ; - Design, development, and demonstration of a prototype in a laboratory environment, as well as integration into real use cases ; - Writing project documentation and scientific publications. 3. BRIEF PRESENTATION OF THE WORK PROGRAMME AND TRAINING: This work will start with a study on controlled data sharing methods in federated environments. Existing solutions will be tested for creating data spaces that align with the technical and governance definitions of IDSA, the Gaia-X standards, relevant European directives, and best practices defined by reference projects. The issues to address involve the architectural and technical definition of essential components for creating a decentralized data space that allows data sharing in an interoperable way, both at the model level and at the data transfer protocol level. Empirical studies will be used to explore and demonstrate the benefits of the proposed approach. A prototype will be developed in a lab environment and integrated into real use cases. 4. REQUIRED PROFILE: Admission requirements: Degree in Computer Engineering or a related field. Master's student in Computer Engineering or a related field. The awarding of the fellowship is dependent on the applicants' enrolment in study cycle or non-award courses of Higher Education Institutions. Preference factors: - Experience in software development based on JavaScript (ReactJS, NodeJS) and Java; - Experience with using, integrating, and developing APIs; - Experience with Linux, Docker, and MongoDB technologies; - Experience with cloud technologies and deploying solutions on on-premise infrastructures Minimum requirements: - Knowledge of Software Engineering; - Knowledge of Computer Networks; - Knowledge of Distributed Systems; - Previous experience demonstrated in developing components for Data Spaces; - Demonstrated experience in a professional context. 5.
