Applications are invited for a Research Support Officers (RSO) or Research Support Assistant (RSA) to work on the DigiClap+ project, of which the University of Malta is the lead partner . The R SO may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. Applicants must be in possession of a B.Eng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Candidates who have completed their final year of a Bachelor’s course may also be considered for the post and, if successful, will be initially employed as RSA until the person obtains the first degree result. Preference will be given to candidates providing evidence of proficiency in one or more of the following areas: development of smart wearable devices in healthcare, Additive Manufacturing and systems integration and testing. The applicant should be self-motivated and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. He/she must be able to organise and prioritise tasks within the project timeline to meet interim deadlines. He/she must also possess good communication and academic writing skills in English. International applicants are required to present an internationally recognised English Language proficiency Certificate at the required level. Further details are available here . In addition to its modular design, its core innovation lies in a novel Motion Capture Algorithm (MCA) that precisely tracks individual phalange movements, unlike state-of-the-art (SOTA) technologies that focus solely on whole-finger motion. This allows occupational therapists to monitor patient progress with greater accuracy between sessions. While DIGICLAP has reached Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7 as a product, its service layer remains at TRL 4, as MCA data is not yet mapped to a standardised set of interaction gestures that can be dynamically personalised for therapeutic gaming. To bridge this gap, DIGICLAP+ aims to develop an adaptive framework of interaction gestures tailored to users with dexterity impairments, expanding beyond children with CP.
