NOTICE OF THE OPENING OF AN INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR RECRUITMENT OF ONE RESEARCH ASSISTANT | Ref.ª INVTERM-FCUP-26-9 Ana Cristina Freire, Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, hereby advertises the opening for 10 working days of an international call for recruitment on one Research Assistant, with Master`s degree, resolutive term uncertain, within the Project COMPETE2030-FEDER-00858000, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the Innovation and Digital Transition Program (COMPETE 2030) and by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). 1. Main research field : Physics / Physics Engineering 2. Admission requirements: Applications can be submitted by any nationals, foreigners and stateless people who meet the following conditions cumulatively: who hold a master’s degree in the above-mentioned scientific area or in similar relevant areas. If the candidate holds an MSc awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions established in the Decree-Law no. 66/2018 on July 16. All the formalities established in the Decree-Law must be met until the hiring. Failure to comply with these requirements results in the preliminary rejection of the application. Preferred requirements: Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the synthesis of metallic alloys (using conventional methods as well as techniques such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF)), the synthesis of negative thermal expansion (NTE) materials, and the selection of sustainable materials with no or reduced content of critical raw materials (CRMs). Additional desirable qualifications include experience in the thermal, magnetic, morphological, and structural characterization of materials, particularly by X-ray diffraction (XRD); magnetic and structural data analysis; the development of hardware and software for the control and acquisition of negative thermal expansion measurements (e.g., X-ray diffraction and/or strain as a function of temperature); the presentation of scientific results; and preliminary experience in project management activities. 3. Functions to be performed: As a Research Assistant, the successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of the tasks described below, which are aligned with the objectives established in the project's grant agreement. Specifically, the candidate will undertake the following activities within the corresponding Work Packages (WPs): WP1 – Literature Review and Test Coupon Sample Production and Characterization: Conduct a comprehensive literature review to establish the state of the art in the development of negative thermal expansion (NTE) materials. The researcher will also be responsible for the laboratory-scale production of cementitious composite (mortar) samples incorporating NTE additives, as well as their initial characterization. WP2 – Thermal Expansion Computational Modelling: Develop finite element simulations using software such as COMSOL Multiphysics to investigate the influence of NTE additives in mortar composites. Simulations will evaluate the effects of parameters including particle morphology (shape and size distribution), NTE coefficient, operating temperature range, and additive concentration on the overall coefficient of thermal expansion and the local stress distribution within the composites. WP4 – Optimal Small-Scale Sample Characterization: Produce optimized laboratory-scale samples and perform their comprehensive structural, thermal, and functional characterization. WP7 – Management and Dissemination Activities: Contribute to the project's management tasks, scientific dissemination activities, and communication of research outcomes. Top of Form Bottom of Form 4. Applicable laws and regulations: Regulation No. 487/2020 of the Research, Science and Technology Staff of the University of Porto, published in the 2nd series of Diário da República on May 22, 2020.
