BI_Mestre_i3N_2026 A call for applications is open for the award of 1 (one) Research Fellowship – BI, under the project Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (i3N), with reference UID50025/2025, funded by national funds and, where eligible, co-funded by EU funds, under the terms of the respective funding instrument. 1. Scientific Area Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering or related fields. 2. Admission Requirements Applicants who cumulatively meet the following requirements may apply to this call: a) Hold a master’s degree in Micro and Nanotechnology Engineering or related fields*. b) Be enrolled in a non-degree-conferring course or in a doctoral programme**, under the terms of the applicable regulation; *Candidates who obtained their academic degree abroad must present the corresponding recognition in Portugal and the conversion of the final grade to the Portuguese scale, under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August. If this document is not available at the time of application, it may be replaced by a declaration on word of honour, to be submitted by the fellowship contracting stage, according to the template attached to this Call. **Proof of enrolment in a study cycle or course eligible for the fellowship may likewise be replaced, up to the same stage, by a declaration on word of honour, under the terms of the template attached to the Call. 3. Preferential Factors The following will be valued: – Training and research experience in the specific scientific area of the work plan; – Master’s degree average equal to or higher than 16 (out of 20). 4. Work Plan The fellow will carry out research activities within the scope of the Institute of Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanofabrication (i3N) project, including, namely: – Task 1 – Development of cellulose-based formulations and production of different photonic materials; – Task 2 – Characterization of the materials produced in Task 1; – Task 3 – Study of the interaction between the materials and light; – Task 4 – Dissemination of the work developed through technical-scientific articles and conferences, as well as the organisation of periodic communication actions to promote the results obtained. The work plan will be considered as part of the evaluation process. 5. Applicable Legislation The award and contracting of the fellowship are governed by the Research Fellowship Holder Statute (Law No. 40/2004, of 18 August, as currently in force) and by the Research Fellowship Regulation applicable to this call, namely the Research Fellowship Regulation of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, approved by Despacho No. 9484/2023. 6. Place of Work The work will be carried out at the Department of Materials Science of NOVA FCT, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Ana Almeida. 7. Duration and Start The fellowship has a duration of up to 12 months, expected to start in September 2026. The fellowship may be renewed during the term of the project up to a maximum limit of 48 (forty-eight) months for fellows enrolled in a doctoral programme. For fellows enrolled in a non-degree-conferring course, the total duration of the fellowship, including any renewals, may not exceed 12 (twelve) months, whether consecutive or interpolated. 8. Fellowship Amount – The monthly amount of the fellowship is €1,359.64, in accordance with the FCT table in force, payment being made by bank transfer. – The fellowship amount may be subject to an increase, under the terms legally provided for in the applicable regulation. 9. Selection Method The evaluation of applications will focus on the candidate's merit, applying the following evaluation criteria, scored on a scale of 1 to 5: A – Candidate Merit – MC (80%): A1 – Academic background: 30%; A2 – Personal curriculum: 60%; A3 – Motivation letter: 10%. Final merit classification: MC = (A1×0.3) + (A2×0.6) + (A3×0.1).
