A call for applications is open for 1 (one) PhD Research Grant, within the scope of the project “Madeira Tourism Observatory - Tourism of Portugal”, funded by Turismo de Portugal, under the following conditions: I. Scientific Area: Tourism Economics, Management, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Data Science or related fields II. Admission Requirements: • Master's degree in the indicated areas; • Enrollment in a doctoral program; • Skills in data analysis and quantitative methods; • Knowledge of statistical or data visualization tools (preferred); • Good written and oral communication skills. Preferred requirements: • Experience in the analysis of socioeconomic indicators; • Knowledge of tourism sustainability; • Experience with software such as R, Python, QGIS, Tableau or Power BI. III. Work Plan The scholarship recipient will develop activities within the scope of the Madeira Tourism Observatory project - Turismo de Portugal, namely: 1. Supporting documents for this situation must be submitted, at the latest, until the contracting phase of the scholarship, and may be replaced before then by a declaration under oath. 2. Documents proving the holding of academic degrees and diplomas, or their recognition when granted by foreign higher education institutions, are waived during the application phase for the support in question, being replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate. • Development of tourism sustainability indicators; • Data collection, processing and analysis; • Participation in thematic studies: the ecological footprint of tourism the socioeconomic impacts employment and remuneration in the tourism sector • Support for the creation of an interactive database and dashboards • Production of technical reports and policy briefs • Participation in dissemination activities and events These activities fall within the project's objective of strengthening sustainability monitoring and supporting strategic decision-making in the tourism sector. IV. Applicable legislation and regulations: Research Grant Holder Statute in its current wording and Research Grant Regulations of the University of Madeira V. Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Tourism Observatory of the University of Madeira, under the scientific guidance of Prof. Dr. Luiz Pinto Machado. VI. Grant duration: The grant will last 17 months, with no possibility of renewal. VII.
