ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE AWARD OF A RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP Title: Research Grant for a Bachelor degree holder – HEALTH-UNORTE (1 vacancy) Reference: HEALTH-UNORTE – BI – 01/2026 (1) A call for applications is now open for the attribution of one (1) research grant within the scope of the I&D project “HEALTH-UNORTE - Health Promotion_UNorte: integrated approaches to prevent, monitor and treat cardiovascular, neurological, infectious diseases and cancer”, of the Center for Electromechanical Microsystems, ref. NORTE2030-FEDER-01786400 - Health_UNorte, funded by the Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission | CCDR-N through the Northern Regional Operational Programme 2021-2027 | NORTE2030, under the following conditions: Scientific Area: Biomedical Engineering. Recipient category: The grant is intended for a Bachelor degree holder in the area of Biomedical Engineering. Identify the type(s) of scholarship to be awarded: a) Degree course: The research grant (BI) is intended for I&D activities by a student enrolled in a Master or integrated Master. b) Non-conferring degree course: It may also be intended for I&D activities by a graduate enrolled in a non-academic degree course. Requirement for granting the fellowship:  The applicants may apply without prior registration in the course for which the grant is open. The requirement to enroll in a degree course or a non-academic degree course will be verified on the date of contracting the grant.  Only the grant whose selected applicant presents a valid proof of enrolment in a degree course or non-academic degree course will be contracted, according to the type of the fellowship, issued by a Higher Education Institution, indicating, respectively, the academic year or its duration (start and term). Applicants’ eligibility: Candidates who meet the conditions set out in Article 9 of the Research Grant Regulations, No. 950/2019, of 16-12-2019, of FCT I.P. are eligible. Nationals or citizens of other European Union member states, third-country nationals, stateless persons, and citizens with political refugee status are eligible to apply for this competition. Candidate eligibility requirements: Candidates must have, on the date of application, a Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering. It is required for the contractualization, proof of academic qualifications completed within the application deadline, including those resulting from academic degree recognition processes. It is required for the contractualization, proof of enrolment in a Master in the area of Biomedical Engineering. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates must be master students in Biomedical Engineering – Area of Specialization in Medical Electronics. Knowledge in electronics applied to the medical area (e.g., biosensors). Proficiency in Portuguese and English. Good teamwork and communication skills. Motivation. Workplan and objectives to be achieved: The work plan consists of the following phases/tasks: a) Study of the potential medical applications of nitinol in the neuronal area. b) Microfabrication of the nitinol structures (e.g., neuronal electrodes as biosensors) using microfabrication technologies. c) Characterization and testing of the microfabricated structures. Note: The work plan aims at the consolidation of the scientific training of the grant holder in the context of the degree or diploma course.
