A call for applications is open for a Research Initiation Grant (BII) within the scope of the project “D2INNOV - Nutritional Fortification and Nutraceuticals with Vitamin D Derived from Mushrooms”, funded by “FEDER-NORTE2030”, under the following conditions: 1. Scientific Area: Food Chemistry 2. Admission Requirements: 1) Student enrolled in the Master's program in Natural Products and Bioapplications; 2) Suitability of the candidate's training and experience to the objectives of the work to be developed; 3) Theoretical and practical knowledge of ultraviolet irradiation of natural matrices; and 4) Experience in extracting vitamin D2 from natural matrices. Proficiency in English (written and oral communication) will also be valued. 3. Work Plan: The main tasks of this plan are: i) ultraviolet irradiation of mushrooms for vitamin D2 enrichment; ii) application of emerging technologies for vitamin D2 extraction; iii) identification and quantification of vitamin D2 using chromatographic techniques; and iv) promotion of the dissemination, valorization, and exploitation of the results obtained within the project. 4. Objectives: The D2INNOV project aims to optimize the preparation and irradiation processes of mushrooms to promote the conversion of ergosterol into vitamin D2, simultaneously developing a powder and an extract enriched with this bioactive compound. The activities will be carried out using sustainable methodologies, aiming to obtain innovative products with high added value for the agri-food sector. 5. Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of the Scientific Research Grant Holder, approved by Law No. 40/2004, of August 18, in its current wording; FCT, I.P. Research Grant Regulations, in force ( https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2019.pdf ); Regulation No. 522/2020, published in the Official Gazette, 2nd series, No. 113, of June 12 – Research Grant Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. 6. Workplace and scientific supervision: The work will be carried out at the Mountain Research Center - IPB, under the scientific supervision of Ângela Fernandes and Lillian Barros. 7. Grant Duration: The grant will have an initial duration of 3 months, with a planned start date of 01/09/2026 (with the possibility of renewal for up to a maximum of 12 months, including the initial period). 8. Monthly Maintenance Allowance Amount: The grant amount corresponds to 701.12€, according to the table of grant values ​​ awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country. Grant recipients will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they may ensure the exercise of the right to social security by joining the voluntary social security scheme, under the terms provided for in the Code of Contribution Regimes of the Social Security System. The grant amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer. 9. Selection Methods and their respective valuation: The selection methods to be used will be the following: The selection methods to be used will be the following: a) Curriculum evaluation and its suitability for the work in question (60%); b) Experiment in ultraviolet irradiation and extraction of vitamin D2 from natural matrices (20%); c) Experience in chromatographic methodologies (20%). The two best candidates, according to these criteria, may be called for an in-person interview and their ranking will be weighted in item a) with a valuation of 40%. The jury may not grant the grant if the candidates' ranking is less than 9.5 points. 10.
