Dr Pedro Nuno de Freitas Lopes Teixeira, Full Professor at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto, Rector of the same University: Following my order of 3 August 2026, a public competition is hereby opened for a period of 30 working days, commencing on the first working day following the publication of this notice in the Diário da República , for the recruitment of one Assistant Professor in the disciplinary area of Exact Sciences, to perform duties in the Department of Population Studies (EPOP), of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto. 1. Applicable legal provisions Articles 37 to 51, 61 and 62-A of the Statute of the University Teaching Career (ECDU), republished by Decree-Law no. 205/2009 of 31 August, as amended by Law no. 8/2010 of 13 May, and the Regulations for the Recruitment of Full, Associate and Assistant Professors of the University of Porto (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), approved by Order no. 12913/2010, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 154, of 10 August, and amended by Extract of Deliberation no. 380/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 64, of 1 April. 2. Administrative admission requirements to the competition Pursuant to Article 41-A of the ECDU, only applicants holding a doctoral degree may be admitted to this competition. If the doctoral degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, pursuant to Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Diário da República, 1st Series, no. 157, of 16 August. This formality must be completed by the date of contract signing. 3. Criteria for selection and ranking of candidates 3.1. In the absence of grounds for rejection of applications, the Jury shall decide on their approval or non-approval on absolute merit, by reasoned nominal vote, with abstentions not being permitted. 3.2. An applicant shall be considered approved on absolute merit if approved by an absolute majority of the voting members of the Jury. 3.3. Approval on absolute merit of applicants requires an overall curriculum which the Jury considers, with reasons, to demonstrate scientific and teaching merit, research capacity and activity compatible with the disciplinary area for which the competition is open and appropriate to the respective teaching category, as documented in the information submitted for the competition. 3.4. For the purposes of the assessment referred to in the preceding point, a favourable vote must be based on compliance with all of the following cumulative criteria: a) Holding a PhD in the disciplinary area of Applied Mathematics or related fields, with particular relevance to Biostatistics in Life and Health Sciences; b) The candidate must have a relevant scientific curriculum in the field of Biostatistics in Life and Health Sciences; c) Demonstrating scientific independence, namely through original and independent contributions in areas involving the application of Biostatistics in Life and Health Sciences, and having authored at least 5 (five) articles published in scientific journals with an impact factor, according to the latest edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) international reference system of the Web of Science (WoS); d) Having relevant scientific experience in areas involving the application of Biostatistics in Life and Health Sciences, as evidenced by participation in research projects funded through competitive calls (national or international); e) Having experience in supervising/co-supervising students at different study cycles, with particular relevance to areas involving the application of Biostatistics in Life and Health Sciences. 4. Ranking of candidates approved on absolute merit Once the applicants definitively approved on absolute merit have been identified, they shall be ranked on relative merit, based on the assessment components and criteria, their respective weightings and
