The ISOPlexis, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Technology Research Center, University of Madeira, operating in the fields of Agriculture, Agri-food and Sustainability (Bioeconomy) opens a competition for the granting of (1) one Research Grant, for students of a Master's degree in organic agriculture, within the scope of the ClimAGRO4.0 Project, ref. M2030-FEDER03050600, Technological Innovation in Monitoring, Production, Sustainability and Climate Adaptation of Agri-food Systems, under the following conditions: I. Scientific Area: Agricultural Sciences II. Admission requirements: a. General requirements: Enrollment in the Master's program in Organic Agriculture and Rural Development, University of Madeira. 12 b. Preferred requirements: Bachelor's degree in Environmental/Biological Sciences, Certificate of completion in CET/CTeSP in Organic Agriculture, capacity and aptitude for fieldwork, with experience in developing experimental activities in the area, and documented interest in agricultural and sustainability issues. III. Work plan: The scholarship work plan is included in Action 5 – “Phenotyping and Genotyping of Endogenous Genetic Resources and Local Productions”, ClimAGRO4.0 project, the proposed work plan falls under Task 5.3: “Continuous phenotyping and sensing”. It includes a study that seeks to understand how different agricultural management practices influence the optimization of water use and the productive yield of yam (Colocasia esculenta L.), through water use efficiency (WUE) in yam cultivation in consortium, both in organic and conventional production methods. In a non-exhaustive manner, the work plan will involve: i. Practical components in the agricultural experimental field of Fazenda São Roque (onstation), and direct collaborations with local yam producers (on-farm), 1. Supporting documents for this situation must be submitted, at the latest, until the contracting phase of the grant, and may be replaced by a sworn statement before then. 2. Documents proving the holding of academic degrees and diplomas, or their respective recognition when granted by foreign higher education institutions, are waived during the application phase for the support in question, being replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate. fundamental for access to experimental plots managed under biological and conventional practices. ii. Data collection in a real-world (on-farm) production context and the integration of empirical and traditional knowledge about yam cultivation, through direct experimental observation and field data collection, namely: monitoring of the agroecosystem (crops, water input, climate, etc.), in situ measurements (biomass and moisture), sample collection, and monitoring of intercropping practices throughout the experimental period: a. Access to the laboratories of the University of Madeira/ISOPlexis-CASTA, duly equipped for the plant biomass analyses foreseen in the work plan. b. Physicochemical analyses of soil using kits. c. Access to instruments necessary for measuring Water Use Efficiency (WUE), including soil moisture sensors and flow measurement devices, ensuring the accuracy of quantitative data. d. Access to experimental plots and agricultural "inputs" will be formalized through partnerships with local producers and with the technical support of regional partner entities. A detailed work plan will be provided to the selected candidate. Additionally, the scholarship recipient will be required to collect and systematize data, in accordance with the current ISOPlexis standards.
