We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Researcher / Postdoctoral Researcher to join a multidisciplinary systems medicine research environment at the University of Turku. The position is embedded in an internationally recognized team working at the forefront of multi-omics, metabolome & exposome research, and AI-driven data integration in health and disease. The position is part of the EU-funded INITIALISE project, coordinated at the University of Turku. INITIALISE brings together leading European partners to investigate early-life determinants of immune system development through large-scale, longitudinal multi-omics studies, integrating data across multiple birth cohorts and experimental models. Our research focuses on combining large-scale molecular data - including metabolomics, lipidomics, genomics, proteomics, glycomics, and microbiome data - with advanced computational approaches to uncover mechanisms underlying complex diseases and to develop predictive, clinically actionable models. The successful candidate will work in a highly collaborative environment with strong links to clinical cohorts, international consortia, and leading infrastructures at the Turku Bioscience Centre. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at the interface of systems biology, AI, and translational medicine, with access to exceptional datasets and strong publication potential. Key Tasks and Responsibilities Apply advanced statistical and machine learning methods to analyze high-dimensional multi-omics data, including exposomics, genomics, shotgun metagenomics, glycomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, in the context of human health and disease. Contribute to the integration and interpretation of complex, longitudinal, and multi-modal datasets. Document analyses and support scientific reporting, including manuscripts, reports, and grant deliverables. Selection criteria Selection criteria are defined in the Rules and Regulations of the University of Turku. Doctoral degree and wide competence are essential. Recruitment is based on identifying the most qualified and suitable candidate. In addition to education, scientific publications, and work experience, personal qualities, motivation, language skills, and other relevant competencies will be considered. Essential qualifications PhD in computational statistics, bioinformatics, systems biology, or a related field. Strong expertise in statistical methods, including machine learning approaches, for analysis of high-dimensional omics data, ideally including longitudinal data. Excellent programming skills in R. Demonstrated track record in bioinformatics and/or multi-omics data analysis. Ability to work independently with high levels of motivation and initiative. Excellent written and spoken English skills. Desirable qualifications Strong publication record in peer-reviewed international journals relevant to the position. Proficiency in additional programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or Java). Experience applying statistical and computational methods in biomedical research. Experience in project reporting and participation in collaborative research projects. Benefits top-level research environment access to cutting-edge technologies and unique datasets interesting and versatile tasks flexible working hours support for continuous professional development and excellent networking opportunities both nationally and internationally We value equality and diversity in our work community and encourage qualified applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
