We are now looking for a Doctoral Researcher in Transport Studies The doctoral researcher will be embedded in the Spatial Planning and Transportation (SPT) research group and contribute to the CO-SPACES research project funded by the Research Council of Finland. The aim of CO-SPACES is to assess the benefits and burdens created by current and possible future urban street space distribution in Finnish cities, with a focus on both the aggregate societal impacts and equity implications affecting different groups of people, as well as on how to integrate this assessment into existing local governance processes. The PhD project should focus on the last part, especially around the questions of governance – by both understanding the diverse actors’ views and assumptions and working with them to reimagine governance processes. Your experience and ambitions We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong analytical skills and a clear interest in urban transport systems and their governance. The successful applicant should enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary research environment and be willing to engage with both mixed-methodological and applied research questions. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in transport studies, urban planning, policy studies, sociology, or any governance related field relevant for the PhD. Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential. Knowledge of Finnish is not required. The successful applicant should be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team. Previous knowledge of and experience in the field of transport planning and street design will be considered an advantage.
