Dr Pedro Nuno de Freitas Lopes Teixeira, Full Professor at the School of Economics and Management of the University of Porto, Rector of the same University: Following my order of 3 August 2026, a public competition is hereby opened for a period of 30 working days, commencing on the first working day following the publication of this notice in the Diário da República , for the recruitment of one Assistant Professor in the disciplinary area of Biological and Environmental Sciences, to perform duties in the Department of Population Studies (EPOP), particularly in the Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ecology, of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto. 1. Applicable legal provisions Articles 37 to 51, 61 and 62-A of the Statute of the University Teaching Career (ECDU), republished by Decree-Law no. 205/2009 of 31 August, as amended by Law no. 8/2010 of 13 May, and the Regulations for the Recruitment of Full, Associate and Assistant Professors of the University of Porto (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations), approved by Order no. 12913/2010, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 154, of 10 August, and amended by Extract of Deliberation no. 380/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 64, of 1 April. 2. Administrative admission requirements to the competition Pursuant to Article 41-A of the ECDU, only applicants holding a doctoral degree may be admitted to this competition. If the doctoral degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must be recognised by a Portuguese higher education institution, pursuant to Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Diário da República, 1st Series, no. 157, of 16 August. This formality must be completed by the date of contract signing. 3. Criteria for selection and ranking of candidates For the purposes of assessing absolute merit, Aquatic Ecology and/or Aquatic Microbiology constitute the mandatory scientific core of the profile of the PhD holder to be recruited. Scientific output in other areas, namely Iodine Deficiency, Green Chemistry and Tropical Health, shall only be considered on a complementary basis, provided that it is clearly framed within the central scientific domain referred to above. 3.1. In the absence of grounds for rejection of applications, the Jury shall decide on their approval or non-approval on absolute merit, by reasoned nominal vote, with abstentions not being permitted. 3.2. An applicant shall be considered approved on absolute merit if approved by an absolute majority of the voting members of the Jury. 3.3. Approval on absolute merit of applicants requires an overall curriculum which the Jury considers, with reasons, to demonstrate scientific and teaching merit, research capacity and activity compatible with the disciplinary area for which the competition is open and appropriate to the respective teaching category, as documented in the information submitted for the competition. 3.4. For the purposes of the assessment referred to in the preceding point, a favourable vote must be based on compliance with all of the following cumulative criteria: a) Holding a doctoral degree in the disciplinary area of Biological and Environmental Sciences, or related areas, based on a thesis relevant to the field of Aquatic Ecology and Aquatic Microbiology; b) Having a recognised high-quality scientific curriculum, with regular scientific output and relevant impact in the fields of Aquatic Ecology and Aquatic Microbiology, and, complementarily, in Iodine Deficiency and/or Green Chemistry, with relevance to Public Health and the Environment in temperate and/or tropical ecosystems; c) Demonstrating consistent scientific output, including at least 40 (forty) articles published in peer-reviewed international scientific journals with an impact factor according to the latest edition of the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) international reference system (Clarivate Analytics) or indexed in Scopus (Elsevier), being first,
