ICBAS| Two (2) Research Scholarships| ATLÂNTIDA II| Ref. Call for Applications for the Award of TWO (2) Research GrantS (BI), within the scope of the project “ATLANTIDA II – North Atlantic coastal observatory in Portugal”. A call is open for the award of two (2) Research Grants (BI), intended for the development of research and development (R&D) activities within the scope of the project “ATLANTIDA II – NORTH ATLANTIC COASTAL OBSERVATORY IN PORTUGAL” (Ref. NORTE2030-FEDER-01799200), co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), under the Northern Regional Programme (NORTE2030) and Portugal 2030. The work will be carried out at the Aquatic Production of the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS/UP), under the following conditions: 1. Research area/s: Marine and Environmental Sciences. 2. Admission requirements: All individuals of legal age who meet the following requirements, as evidenced by supporting documentation, are eligible to apply for this scholarship: a) Holders of a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related fields; b) Be a student enrolled in a Master’s programme in Biological Sciences, Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related fields. – a requirement to be duly verified upon appointment. 3. Preferred requirements: a) Have completed the classroom component of the Master’s degree by the start date of the scholarship to be awarded; Carry out their research programme leading to the Master’s thesis within the scope of the project in question and under the academic supervision of members of the ICBAS Department of Aquatic Production assigned to the project; Demonstrated skills relevant to the proposed research programme. 4. Work Plan: 4.1. The main tasks to be carried out under the scholarship will be: a) Assessment of the age, growth and reproductive biology of commercially important fish species; b) Use of geochemical signatures and biomarkers in the assessment of fish stocks; c) Sensory, physical and microbiological assessment of the quality of fish for human consumption; d) Improvements in the utilisation of unexploited resources, such as new species and/or the development of new products from waste generated by the fish processing industry. 4.2. Where the academic degree is awarded during the term of the grant agreement, the grant may continue provided that the activities set out in the work plan have not been completed and in accordance with the specific terms set out in the call for applications and in the agreement, pursuant to Article 10(6) of the Regulation. 5. Applicable Legislation and Regulations: The call for applications and the respective award of the studentship are governed by the provisions of the University of Porto's Research Grants Regulations - approved by Regulation no. 582/2026 hereinafter referred to as the Regulation; the legal framework for the recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions; the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA), approved by Decree-Law no. 4/2015, of 7th January; the Research Fellow Statute (EBI), approved by Law no. 40/2004, of 18th August, in the current wording published by Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28th August and; other applicable rules. 6. Workplace : The work plan will be carried out at the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS/UP), in the Department of Aquatic Production and at other locations necessary for its implementation, under the scientific supervision of Professors Alberto Teodorico Correia and Paulo Vaz-Pires. 7. Duration : The BI will last for six months on a full-time basis. Work is expected to begin on 1 September 2026 and be completed by the end of February 2027. 8. Monthly maintenance allowance amount: 8.1. The monthly maintenance allowance for the studentship is 1090,98€, according to Annex I of the Research Grants Regulations of the University of Porto. 8.2.
