PUBLIC NOTICE FOR THE AWARD OF A PhD RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP Title : PhD Research Fellowship– 1 vacancy Reference: ICVS_BI_2026_017(1) A call for applications is now open for the attribution of one PhD Research Fellowship, within the scope of the R&D project “ Exploring CAG repeat expansion somatic instability and mismatch repair proteins in SCA3 ”, with the referenceCOMPETE2030-FEDER-00735900 - 16202, funded by European funds, namely of the European Fund of Regional Development (FEDER), within the scope of the Framework Programme “Portugal 2030” and of the Operational Programme “Innovation and Digital Transition Programme | Compete 2030”, and by national funds, through the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT, I.P.), under the following conditions: Scientific Area : Basic Medicine Candidate’s category PhD students in the area of Biomedicine, Health Sciences or in related scientific areas; Students enrolled in a PhD who do not exceed, with the conclusion of the fellowship contract in question, including the possible renewals, a cumulative period of four years in this type of fellowship (PhD Fellowship), consecutive or interpolated. Requirements for granting of the fellowship: Candidates may apply without prior registration in the course/cycle of studies that confers the academic degree. Nonetheless, the requirement of registration in the course/cycle of studies that confers the academic degree must be verified on the date of contracting the fellowship; For the purpose of contracting the fellowship, the selected candidate must present a valid proof of registration in the course/cycle of studies that confers the academic degree, issued by the respective academic services of a Higher Education Institution, with the indication of the current academic year or its duration (start and end). Candidate’s eligibility: Candidates who meet the conditions set out in Article 9 of the Research Fellowships Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), No. 950/2019, of 16-12-2019, are eligible. National citizens or citizens of other European Union member states, citizens of third-countries, stateless persons and citizens with political refugee status are eligible to apply for this competition. Applications eligibility requirements: a) Mandatory requirement: - Master's degree in the area of Biochemistry or related scientific areas, or be enrolled in a Doctoral Program in the area(s) of Biomedicine and Health Sciences or related scientific areas, or meet the necessary conditions to enroll in a Doctoral Program in the area(s) of Biomedicine and Health Sciences or related scientific areas; - Authorization for the use of laboratory animals for experimental and other scientific purposes issued by the Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV) – the national regulatory authority. b) In accordance with the Research Fellowships Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), only students who are enrolled in a PhD and who do not exceed, with the conclusion of the fellowship contract in question, including the possible renewals, a cumulative period of four years in this type of fellowship (PhD Fellowship), consecutive or interpolated, may benefit of the award of the fellowship under this Call, for which, according to the point “Application deadline and submission” of this Call, the candidates must submit in the application process a Declaration of Honor regarding the benefited Research Fellowships, issued as defined in the model attached to the present public notice, in order to assess whether the candidates meet the necessary conditions to be able to benefit from the type of fellowship in the competition ; c) Preferential factors: - Knowledge acquired along the path/academic training in: i) animal models of spinocerebellar ataxias, specifically in nematodes and mice; ii) genetic engineering for the development of animal models of disease, specifically cloning and CRISPR/Cas9; iii) animal behaviour and iv)
