Summary: There is an open call for one (1) Research Scholarship (“Bolsa de Investigação”) at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of project Joint-Lab-RD2. Scientific Area: Wireless Technologies Group: Wireless Circuits – Av Admission Requirements: Research Grants (BI): Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by students enrolled in a doctoral program, aiming to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the respective academic degree, whether or not integrated into R&D projects. Are intended for carrying out R&D activities by master's degree holders who are enrolled in non-degree courses that are part of the educational programme of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units. Applicants should hold an MSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field, with a strong academic record, interested in doing scientific research towards a PhD degree. A solid background in RF/microwave engineering is required, including familiarity with concepts such as S-parameters, nonlinear circuit behaviour, and active device characteristics. Prior exposure to power amplifier design, load-pull techniques, or nonlinear/behavioural modelling is considered an asset. Experience with RF/microwave CAD tools (e.g., Keysight ADS, NI/Cadence AWR Microwave Office, or equivalent) is valued as its familiarity with programming and numerical analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB) for data processing and simulation automation. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team, and good written and oral communication skills in English (essential for scientific publication and international collaboration). A genuine interest in experimental hardware work, including hands-on laboratory measurements, prototype assembly, and test bench setup, is highly desirable, given the practical, design-oriented nature of the project. Prior research experience (e.g., MSc thesis in a related area, publications, or participation in research projects) is a plus. Work Objectives: Develop novel co-design methodologies for APD-PA topologies that achieve high efficiency across a broad bandwidth and high linearity levels. Propose novel power amplifiers/system architectures. Propose advanced design methods (e.g., using Artificial Intelligence Techniques) Find the limitations in current technologies and give hints of their improvement. Place of work: The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Prof. Luís Carlos Cótimos Nunes. Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. This type of scholarship has a maximum duration of 4 years. Start date: September 2026 or soon thereafter. Required Documents: Motivation letter explaining the interest in the position; Detailed Curriculum Vitae with transcripts; Degree certificate (if applicable); Proof of enrollment in a higher education course or declaration of intention to enroll in a study cycle leading to an academic degree or in a course that does not confer an academic degree. * *NOTE: Proof of enrollment, issued by the higher education institution in a study cycle leading to the award of an academic degree or in a non-degree course, must be submitted by the time of contract signing. Apply online clicking on the “Apply Now” button in this form https://www.it.pt/Positions/OtherResearchPosition/8385 After the notification of the results, candidates have 10 working days if they wish to contest the decision.
